Sleep medicine
Recreative sleep is crucial for our performance and quality of life. At night body and soul recover from day-time stress, respiration and heart rate are lowered, the brain is working through day-time impressions and learns from them. Hormones are produced and essential repair processes are carried out by the body. All of this is affected by sleep disorders.
A lack of restorative sleep is a 24h problem with a wide range of negative effects on our day-time activities. Lassitude, day-time fatigue, head aches, depression and high blood pressure can be some of them. Many people feel let down by medicine which main offers strong sedatives (hypnotic, sleeping pills).
Due to the link between adequate sleep and quality of life, we have established a consultation for sleep disorders. Modern sleep medicine is in many cases able to break the vicious circle of non-restorative sleep and snoring, lassitude and sleepiness during the day.
Core Competence - Day-time Fatigue
We use sleep recorders which can be taken home, so you can monitor your sleep quality in your own bed. In case of noticeable problems or poor sleep, further diagnostics may be prescribed and performed in our sophisticated sleep laboratory.
Hormone - or stress-related sleep disorders are analysed based on a hormone profile and potentially a hormone diurnal profile also called a circadian hormone rhythm profile. The majority of sleep disorders or disturbances will be resolved and successfully treated by sleep medicinal therapy or biomolecular optimization.
If the diagnostics does not reveal the cause for day-time fatigue or treatment of a CPAP sleep apnea therapy does not cure a persisting day-time fatigue, a hormone deficiency/burn out or excess may be the reason for your sleep disturbances. Lack of deep sleep (delta wave sleep) due to insomnia or sleep apnea syndrome often causes an imbalance of the normal diurnal hormonal rhythm profile and especially growth hormone (somatotropin, STH) deficiency. Symptoms of growth hormone deficiency (hGH) e.g. listlessness, fatigue, tiredness, lassitude and susceptibility to infection(s) resemble signs of a sleep apnea syndrome and may be easily misinterpreted or misdiagnosed.
Primedica patients benefit here from our core competence in biomolecular optimization with bioidentical molecules and hormones. Insomnia related hormonal dysfunction will be treated in close cooperation with our experts in corresponding fields.
Our consultation is headed by Dr. Johannes Gurk. A registration via phone, email, fax etc. is reasonable and appreciated.
